For Mother’s Day

I don’t believe
in mama memes.
I’m self-sufficient,
I’m twenty-three!
And have a baby of my own.

But Mom still calms
my scary nights.

Any mountain
I can climb.
I don’t need help!
So get away!
Because I am strong.

But I still need Mom
to tell me so.

I will not crumble,
to anything,
even when I can’t breathe
because my brain
is sick…

But Mom still knows
how to fix me.

And is the one
that makes me, helps me,
be what I protest to be.
Even while I stupidly say
I don’t need her help.

But Mom still
understands.

And I’ll never grow out
of needing
Mom.
